I love reading – news, magazines, books – it doesn’t matter. So when my co-workers were talking about starting a book club last winter, I was all in. I had never been involved in one before and it sounded like a lot of fun! So far we’ve read our way through some diverse books, with meetings focused around food and fun. We’ve taken a more laidback approach this summer, choosing book/movie combos and holding our meetings at the local movie theater. Yesterday was our August get-together. I can’t believe another season of The Bachelorette has come to an end! This season has been one of my favorites, but not necessarily because of the people on the show. Ever since college, my friends and I have gotten into the habit of getting together every Monday night for girl’s night centered around ABC’s infamous dating show. This year, we decided to turn it into an innocent competition – and Fantasy Bachelorette was born!

I don’t know why, but I was surprised to hear that Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green had gotten married a couple of weeks ago. It had just become public knowledge that she had received (and promptly lost) another engagement ring from Brian. I figured there would be the obligatory year long planning period before the wedding. This week, I get to reflect back on my own wedding! It’s hard to believe how much time has gone by since I put on my wedding dress and walked down that aisle. It was definitely one of the most memorable days of my life – a feeling I’m sure most newlyweds share! I was one of the first of my friends to get married and have recently had the pleasure of helping a few of them pick out their own wedding dresses. I’ve definitely had dress envy! Sandra Bullock has had a tough time of late. I’m sure most people are aware of the issues she has been having in her marriage to Jesse James. I’ve spent the last couple of months hoping that some good news would be coming her way, while the whole time she has been keeping a joyful secret – make that a bundle of joy secret!

I was surprised how much the trailer to The Last Song caught my attention. I’ve seen Hannah Montana – I know Miley Cyrus is a decent Disney channel style actress. I just wasn’t expecting her to be very enticing in a more serious role. I may have been wrong – the movie actually looks really good!

Not only is Miley looking to get into the movie business, but it sounds like she may be doing so at the expense of her current career. It’s no surprise that Hannah Montana is ending. [ . . . ]

I am all for trend-setters, and for the most part, I let my 4-year-old daughter have a say in what she wears and what she puts on her feet, but I’m not too sure what to think about these!

One of my all-time favorite television shows is Friends. The name is very fitting – not only do you feel like you know the characters and are personally involved in their lives, but it’s the perfect show to watch with a group of girlfriends. I remember starting to get into the show in 6th grade with my friend Jessica, and have fond memories of watching Friends with friends all the way up to the final season during my freshman year of college. The wait is almost over – Oscar night is nearly upon us. Normally I know more about the movies that have been nominated, but this year I have seriously been slacking on staying up on current cinematic magic. I haven’t even made it to see Avatar yet – I must be one of only a handful of people who can still say that!

Regardless of my 2010 Oscar movie knowledge, or lack thereof, I will be tuned in to ABC this Sunday night. [ . . . ]
